Prerequisites
Follow this check list and make sure you have all of the policies and licenses set up.
Ensure the user has the correct licenses assigned. All you should need is the
Teams Phone with Calling Planlicense. Assign this via theLicensessection in Microsoft Admin Center.Go to the Teams Admin Center
TAC. This is where we will do almost all of our configuration. Start off by heading toVoice -> Phone Numbers. Assign a phone number to the user with the license.Ensure that the user has proper policies assigned to them. Make sure the
Emergency Policiesassigned to them have a proper emergency number assigned. Then make sure that underCalling policiesthey have anAllowCallsPolicyassigned to them. The important part in this calling policy is that private calls are allowed. Assign policies viaManage Usersin TAC.I recommend factory resetting the phone first. You can accomplish this with this method. Make sure the phone is unplugged from power. Then plug the phone into power and immediately press four of your fingers in the corners of the actual touchscreen pad. Press and hold them there for a few seconds until the red light comes on top right. Then take fingers off for a second and reapply fingers in the same spot for another 5 seconds.
First Time Setup
Boot up the phone, if you factory reset it, accept EULA and set to Microsoft Teams if prompted.
You should be taken to a Microsoft Teams sign in page, have the user sign in.
They will be asked to activate this device on the admin app, allow this. Continue with the user through the sign in and set up process.
After the phone boots initially for the first time, head to the TAC and go to
Teams Devices->Phones. Verify that the phone shows up here. Once you see the phone, select it and assign a configuration profile. Create one if you have to, you can either create one specific for the user or create one for all CCX 400 phones.Once the phone shows up on TAC, you will be able to trigger updates. I recommend letting the phone sit for about 10 minutes. It can take a little bit for the phone to search for the required updates. You will be updating the firmware and the Teams app. Update the phone, I recommend doing and manual update to force it through.
Going into the details of the device then into the history will show progress of updates. After updates show as successful, go over to the phone and head to the
Debugin the devices settings. There should be an option forReboot phone. Reboot for changes to take effect. After the reboot, they may need to sign back in. Verify the phone works by trying to call the assigned phone number using your phone. Verify that it can call out.
